BMW i7 launched in India, single-motor eDrive50 variant, pricing

BMW India has quietly revamped its i7 product lineup. Gone is the i7 Xdrive60 variant, replaced by the new i7 eDrive50 priced at Rs 20.30 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes the i7 all-electric luxury sedan priced around Rs 10 lakh more affordable. Previously, the BMW i7 Xdrive60, which was discontinued, was priced at Rs 21.3 crore (ex-showroom). Apart from the spare tire, the new i7 eDrive50 variant is almost identical to its predecessor. On the outside, it gets a large kidney grille, sharp crystal LED headlights, flush door handles, slim LED taillights and two-tone exterior paint. It is available in M ​​Sport version, with M-specific elements such as side skirts, exterior mirrors and 21-inch M star-spoke wheels.

Inside, the new BMW i7 eDrive50 also offers the same features, including a 3-spoke M Walknappa leather steering wheel, 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen for rear-seat passengers, and Bowers and Wilkins audio system. Leather upholstery is available in five colors.

BMW i7 eDrive50: battery, output

BMW India will initially offer a single xDrive60 version of the i7 with two electric motors and a 101.7kWh lithium-ion battery. While the eDrive50 uses the same 101.7kWh battery, it uses a single-motor arrangement to power the rear wheels. With a peak torque of 443 horsepower and 650 Nm, the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. The i7 eDrive50 can travel 603 kilometers on a single charge, while the xDrive60 can travel 625 kilometers.

The BMW i7 eDrive50 has a charging power of up to 11kW on an AC system and up to 195kW on a DC system. The former is said to be able to charge the battery from 0% to 100% in 10 hours and 45 minutes, while the latter takes 34 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

The BMW i7 is also launched in a top-spec M70 xDrive variant priced at Rs 250 crore (ex-showroom) and available with a dual-motor setup – one motor producing 254 hp at the front axle and the other 483 hp at the rear . Combined, the two produce 650bhp and 1,015Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and has an electronically adjusted top speed of 250 km/h. The same 101.7kWh battery has a range of 560 kilometers on a single charge.

Safety kit includes cornering brake control, ABS with EBD, 3-point seatbelts for each passenger, seven airbags, dynamic stability control, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and advanced driver assistance systems such as lane change warning ( ADAS) function, blind spot assist, rear cross-traffic warning. In terms of market competition, i7’s competitors include Mercedes-Benz EQS 580, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, etc.
