Supercar has a Numerical dead zone. They are actually extreme machines. One of them is their short ramp-up time and the number of people in the world who can buy them. At the other end of the spectrum are statistical outliers in horsepower, torque, and top speed. On top of that, there’s the surprising price. The Bugatti W16 Mistral is a good example. Earlier this month, the €14 million ($14,772,800) one-off W16 Mistral world record car set a new top speed world record for an open-top car: 453.91 km/h (282 mph).
This is nothing new for Bugatti as it has set top speed records with other cars in the past. In June 2010, the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport had a top speed of 431.07 km/h (267.8 mph). Three years later, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse reached a speed of 408.84 km/h (254 mph) with the roof panels closed. As advertised, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ reached a top speed of 490.48 km/h (304.7 mph) five years ago.
To put the 1,578-horsepower quad-turbocharged W16 Mistral into the record books, Bugatti took it to ATP Automotive Testing Papenburg GmbH (the same location where Chevrolet tested the new Corvette ZR1 to 233 mph). After warming up the W16 Mistral’s custom tires, Bugatti Pilote Officiel and Le Mans-winning driver Andy Wallace accelerated to 200 km/h (124 mph) before entering the track’s gradient and then pedaling Gas pedal. He didn’t let go until the speedometer reached a new record number. “When it comes to the moment itself, the experience was extremely emotional; feeling the force of nature coming from the open cockpit, with the sound of the massive W16 engine blaring from the air intake in your ears – made this achievement so special. Incredibly exciting.”
Wallace wasn’t the only one to experience the rush. Owner of W16 Mistral world record car witnesses history being made and With Wallace riding shotgun next to him, he drove the car at nearly the same speed he set the world record for.
The exposed black carbon fiber and deep orange W16 Mistral will join the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse and Chiron Super Sport 300+ world record cars in the Singer Collection, “a private collection of cars showcasing Singer’s An ideal achievement for a perfect collection.” Punjabi Community” – and the daring achievements of Bugatti’s brilliant engineers and courageous drivers.
