BYD has chosen the IAA transport show in Hannover to unveil a range of electric light commercial vehicles designed for the European market. These include the BYD E-Valli large van for last-mile and parcel delivery services, the EYT 2.0 yard tractor, the ETM6 box van and the larger ETH8 truck.

BYD E-Vali competes with the Volkswagen e-Crafter, Renault Master E-Tech and a host of large electric vans made by Stellantis (Fiat Ducato, Opel Movano, Citroen Jumpy, Peugeot Boxer, Toyota Pro-Ace).

The Chinese LCV is available in two versions, 5,995 mm (236 in) and 6,995 mm (275.4 in) in length. Payload capacity ranges from 700-1450 kg (1,543-3,197 lb) and cargo volume ranges from 13.9-17.9 m3 (491-632 ft3), more than enough for last-mile and package delivery services.

The company offers both RWD and AWD electric powertrain options, both equipped with an 80.64 kWh BYD Blade battery. Maximum range is between 220-250 km (137-155 miles), making it suitable for commercial truck fleets.
The BYD E-Valli has a simple yet futuristic exterior with modern LED lights and boxy plastic wheel arch cladding. Inside, it features a digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment touchscreen, and a host of ADAS features.
The odd-looking BYD EYT 2.0 is an all-electric yard tractor designed for ports, airport terminals and distribution centers. Its peculiarity means you won’t encounter it on public roads, so you can forgive it for looking like the corner of a small apartment—even after the 2.0 redesign made its appearance even cuter.

The BYD Blade Battery has a capacity of up to 216.7 kWh and can support up to 16 hours of operation. Using a 130 kW DC charger, the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in one hour, minimizing downtime. The electric powertrain produces up to 349 hp (260 kW / 354 PS), enough to handle “large containers and trailers” and has a top speed of 40 km/h (25 mph).
Next up is the more common electric truck in the 7.5-ton (16,535-pound) class. Designed for “zero-emission urban delivery,” the BYD ETM6 features a configurable chassis with a length of either 5,940 mm (233.4 in) or 7,635 mm (300.6 in). The permitted payloads are 3,710 kg (8,179 lb) and 3,640 kg (8,025 lb), respectively. The truck is based on the BYD ePlatform and uses a 126-kWh BYD Blade battery pack, giving it a range of up to 200 km (124 mi) when fully loaded.
Last but not least, the BYD ETH8 is a 19-ton (41,888-lb) truck focused on logistics and sanitation services. Its configurable platform offers two wheelbase options of 7,930 mm (312.2 in) or 10,270 mm (404.3 in).
The electric powertrain has a maximum output of 241 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) and a top speed limited to 90 km/h (56 mph). Finally, the LiFePO4 battery has a capacity of 255 kWh, giving a practical range of around 250 km (155 miles) per charge, with a 20-100% charge time of 2 hours.
Whether the new upgraded products can help BYD increase its share in the highly competitive European light commercial vehicle market remains to be seen.
