- This time was set by Christian Gebhardt during sports car testing.
- The manufacturer’s time was 10 seconds faster than the German publication’s test.
While Chevrolet conducted extensive testing and development on the Corvette Z06 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it never actually posted an official lap time at the track. However, thanks to German publication Sport Auto, we now have a good idea of how fast the mid-engine supercar will be on the track.
var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”) { adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9 -9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd(“6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657”);
With Christian Gebhardt at the wheel, the Corvette completed a lap of the track in 7 minutes and 10.51 seconds. The time was recorded over a shortened distance of 20.6 kilometers rather than the full 20.832 kilometers that the automaker mainly uses for flying laps. So, how does this compare to the competition?

Comparing the times set by Sport Auto with those set by the manufacturer itself is cumbersome, to say the least. Car brands often spend days fine-tuning their vehicles for track laps, and Gebhard completed a flying lap for every car he tested. In the case of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, Gebhard set a best time of 6:52.54 in 2021, while Mercedes-AMG itself set a best time of 6:43.616 under Maro Angel. Likewise, Sport Auto drove a 911 GT3 RS to set a best lap time of 6:54.99, 10 seconds slower than Porsche’s official time of 6:44.848.
var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”) { adpushup.triggerAd(“5646c171 -cb6e-4e2c-8440-49013ca72758”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“e7c4c913-3924-4b2d-9279-6c00984dd130”);
By that logic, Chevrolet itself could potentially shave more than 10 seconds off the Corvette Z06’s lap time if it was determined enough.
The best way to compare the Z06’s times is with other cars tested by Sport Auto and driven by Gebhardt. For example, in 2023, he drove a Ferrari 296 GTB on the track and ran a time of 6 minutes and 58.70 seconds, which was much faster than the Z06. Back in 2019, Gebhard set a best lap time of 7:06.60 in the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro, and in 2018, he drove a McLaren 720S around the track and ran a lap time of 7:08.34. score. The Z06’s 7:10.51 time is nearly identical to the 7:10.92 lap time Gebhard set in the original Mercedes-AMG GT R in 2016.
Obviously, the Corvette is fast, but it doesn’t break records. Or at least not on test day, as weather conditions are another variable that can affect lap times.
