Cadillac thief steals $1.5 million worth of Escalade in succession

  • The 24-year-old has faced charges for stealing from two local auto dealerships.
  • Deon Brooks re-stolen the stolen vehicle before the sale using cloned Vins.
  • His bond has set $2 million, but if released, he will need to wear a GPS tether.

Police in Detroit Macomb County arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stealing a $1.5 million Cadillac Escalade V model from the general manager’s company. This is not the first time Deon Brooks has brushed his teeth on the law, as he also fled police in early 2024 for allegedly stealing a car from a Chevrolet dealership.

On March 11 this year, Brooks was arrested after an in-depth investigation by the Macomb Auto Theft Squad, the Warren Police Department and the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Team. In several Cadillac models from the GM dealership space, local authorities began investigating the case in December 2024.

According to Detroit Free Press, the vehicles are either brand new corporate loan cars or waiting for dealers as Brooks snatches them. Jennifer Putney, a spokeswoman for the local sheriff’s office, said the thief allegedly stood out with the expensive Cadillac Escalade V model, but did not say whether he stole other vehicles for a total of $1.5 million. The price of the Escalade V starts at $159,995 in the United States.

Brooks went to court earlier this month, where he was not guilty of one charge against a criminal enterprise with a maximum sentence of 20 years. His bond is set at $2 million, but even if he issued a bail, he would need to wear a GPS tether if he was released from prison.

Stealing and selling

Police claimed the man rewrites the vehicle with cloned VIN numbers and then sells it for profit. They took the printer from him with him, as well as refilled equipment, fraudulent SOS files, jewelry, Chrysler Pacifica and methamphetamine.

As mentioned earlier, Brooks is no stranger to the law. He was arrested on February 29, 2024 after stealing a car from a Heidebreicht Chevrolet dealership and fleeing police from police. Police used spike bars to disable the car and Brooks tried to escape on foot before being arrested.

He also allegedly stole the vehicle from Serra Cadillac. He was charged with a criminal business for suspected involvement in these thefts, illegally driving a car, and three counts of conspiracy to illegally drive a motor vehicle.
