Camaro of the New Age is reborn as 69’69 Chevy Chevelle SS

  • A unique blend of classic Chevelle styling with modern Camaro performance and technology.
  • It took more than 2,000 hours to create a carbon fiber reinforced custom fiberglass body.
  • The cabin retains the original 2015 Camaro luxury, including heated seats and an infotainment system.

There are no shortage of Hyundai that awkwardly shoots retro aesthetics on contemporary platforms, often ending up in a band that feels more like a tribute than a real deal. But for those who really want modern conveniences, there is no doubt that classic design, where there are rarer, more thoughtful works. Like this; a completely unique fusion of the 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS and the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro.

Human body exchange is not uncommon these days, but in most cases the entire body itself is eventually grafted onto another chassis. However, here, the method is more accurate. Instead of wholesale exchanges, the builders selectively borrowed key boards from Chevelle. The hood and grille are the most instantly recognizable, which gives the car a distinct old-fashioned face without losing the core structure of the Camaro.

The backend follows the same philosophy, while all four fenders have clever updated proportions to better match Camaro’s underlying platform. According to the auction list, the builders used fiberglass reinforced with carbon fiber, specifically for hand-shaping the body panels, a time-consuming process that goes far beyond simple bolting work.

Selective styles fit modern performances

Of course, the part about building something like this is that it doesn’t lose any luxury of Hyundai. Under the hood, Mecum keeps the stock 6.2-liter V8 at 426 hp despite the special car running an automatic transmission. This is worth noting, as Chevrolet said at the time that the automatic car could only produce 410 hp. Either way, it’s a good power.

The convertible roof is still running, and the cabin is almost the 2015 Camaro. This means the next owner will get heated and ventilated seats, a center infotainment system, modern air conditioning and more. Some factory features, such as old-fashioned gauges, fit the spirit of the entire project.

The builder did add two notable touches to the cabin, tying everything together. First, the headrest is from Chevelle. Secondly, the same is true for the rearview mirror. The attention to detail is something the next owner will undoubtedly appreciate.

Those interested in this unique creation should check out Mecum’s 2025 Glendale event. It starts on March 18 and lasts until the 22nd. This special car crossed the auction block on Friday, the 21st. You can view the full list here If you want to see more.
