NEW YORK CITY – The Finance & Accounting Technology Expo (FATE), presented by The Chief Executive Officer Group (CEG), held its inaugural event on October 29-30, 2024 at the Javits Center. This is CEG’s first expo.
RD Whitney, chief operating officer of the CEG Community CFO Leadership Council (CFOLC), said the event was a huge success, with a packed house and feedback from exhibitors and attendees that “exceeded expectations.”
CFOLC is the largest chief financial officer (CFO) network in North America. Whitney calls this “a community of trust” a key inspiration and success factor behind the show.
Start with a “community of trust”
FATE was inspired by Whitney’s post on CFOLC member ListServ, asking participants to share their technology stack (a set of technologies used to create and run an application or project).
The first 50 responses shared over 250 different techniques, highlighting the community’s interest in this topic.
Next, CFOLC conducted an independent study involving more than 500 CFOs in the United States, which revealed that the majority of CFOs and their teams are optimistic and enthusiastic about digital technologies. Based on its survey results, CEG believes that the CFO community may be interested in an event that explores finance and accounting technology.

informed debut
Whitney said CEG chose New York to hold FATE in part because of New York’s status as the “financial capital of the world.”
“The Javits Center is the most high-profile conference venue in New York City. It immediately made a statement that this was going to be a major event,” Whitney explained. “Additionally, with so many businesses along the Amtrak corridor, New York City provides us with an excellent center of gravity to quickly attract CFOs and marketing partners from Washington, D.C. to Boston… We took a risk and leased One of the largest conference centers opens a center in the United States and launches FATE to provide CFOs and their teams with a true experience, learning and networking environment.”
Whitney added that CEG leverages its “trusting community” to drive attendance and “understands the thinking of the CFO and his team” to ensure the show meets their needs. It also leveraged its media assets, such as StrategicCFO360, to promote the campaign and leveraged its credibility to attract more than 30 marketing partners.
Sold out showrooms and more
The inaugural FATE featured 70 technology solutions, more than 50 theater sessions and three keynotes, including one from Shark Tank’s Daymond John, in a sold-out show floor.
FATE has doubled the space at the Javits Center and is accepting registrations for the second edition of the competition, scheduled for October 28-29, 2025.
In addition, CEG will work to expand the programming community by hosting online events throughout the year.
“Our attendees and exhibitors thank us for launching FATE,” Whitney said. “We realize the power of these ‘communities of trust’ and how they are needed to help our customers connect with partners and make the right decisions. When you have a strong community base, launches are more predictable and successful ”
