She is dedicated to enhancing the event experience and working to create value for exhibitors and attendees.
Abby’s approach is rooted in a commitment to client success, evidenced by cultivating impactful relationships and delivering exceptional client service. Here, she shares how she has benefited from earning the CEM designation.
How has the CEM designation helped you in your career?
The CEM designation was very beneficial to my career because I was able to learn a lot of new things and shake off the dust of what I had done or been responsible for in previous roles before joining the vendor. Not everything I learn will become part of my day-to-day activities, but most things are likely to be integral to the personas of the clients I work with, so it’s very rewarding to put yourself in their shoes and learn! Additionally, I was able to meet some amazing people while earning my CEM, which was a huge perk for me!
Why is it important to maintain the CEM designation?
I think maintaining CEM is important because it provides credibility and knowledge. It enables you to keep up with industry trends and learn and adapt to these new trends and technologies. I also think this is a great opportunity to network with other like-minded professionals and learn from peers in addition to lecturers. Having a CEM could also be a great way to help you develop your career in the exhibitions and events industry!
What made you want to earn the CEM designation?
For me, I want to soak up as much knowledge as I can about the industry and learn from others. I knew my job well, but I wanted to learn more about other aspects of our industry and the pain points of the partners we work with on a daily basis. I know I will learn a lot and be able to make great connections for the future!
What advice would you give to aspiring individuals who want to apply for CEM programs?
just do it! You can come up with a million excuses not to do something, but in-person, virtual, and on-demand options give you a lot of flexibility to complete the process in a timely manner, or you can take as much time as you need ! You’ll never regret learning something new!
How did you start your career in this industry?
My first exposure to the industry was through selling print and digital advertising for an association that held a large annual trade show! As part of my initial role, I attended a number of industry events (including our own) over the years. This role eventually evolved into me not only selling print and digital advertising, but also providing exhibition and sponsorship sales for our annual and regional events!
How can you make a difference in your shows or work with clients by applying the knowledge gained through earning the CEM designation?
It’s too early to tell, but I’ve shared various experiences with other team members and discussed with customers that I may not have known about before getting my CEM.
What do you like most about the CEM study program?
I love meeting so many new people from different locations and industries and learning from each one of them!
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I grew up in 4-H and I showed rabbits, cows, and chickens at the county fair! I’m a country girl with roots living in the “city”…now.
