  • Under the hood of this Chevrolet Chevelle is a 540 cubic-inch V8 engine that puts out 2,800 horsepower.
  • It features dozens of 3D printed and CNC machined parts designed in-house.
  • Fans can follow the entire build process via a newly released YouTube series.

The SEMA show always brings out household names in the automotive world. Additionally, some unknown builders are doing their best to make their own way in the industry. Blazin Rodz is one of those guys, and the team there certainly knows how to make an impact. This is Doughboy, a hand-built Chevelle monster with about 2,800 horsepower (2,087 kilowatts) available.

Don’t think just yet that this is just a big modern engine in an old chassis, though. The car’s skeleton comes from renowned chassis designer Art Morrison. Blazin Rodz gave it a unique twist, including extra bracing to handle the power. The suspension is completely custom built for this car, using CNC milled 7075-T6 aluminum.

The intercooler on the Doughboy uses 3D printed carbon fiber radiator ducts, with the cooler frame itself acting as a front core support. The custom billet engine intake also serves as the fuel rail, and the entire engine is 15 inches closer to the middle of the car than the original.

Coming back to the engine again, it’s a 540 cubic-inch (8.8-liter) Brodix V8 with a pair of Precision 8385 next-generation turbochargers and dual 10-GPM aviation brushless fuel pumps. Following the design principles of the rest of the car, the fuel cell also acts as a rear diffuser. Hopefully there are safeguards in place to ensure it always has ground clearance.

“Our goal with the Doughboy was to create a vehicle that not only stood out, but also offered a distinctive driving experience,” said Riccardo Salatino, lead builder at Blazin Rodz. “We pushed the boundaries in every aspect of this build. , from design to engineering, we’re excited to show the world what we can do.”

The cab also features a 4130 roll cage, billet struts and a Motec C1812 instrument cluster. The team uses an Audi R8 steering wheel to quickly access certain functions. Those who want to watch the build process can watch Blazin Rodz’s new YouTube series. It documents the car from start to finish and delves into the design decisions made early in its production.
