The Citroen C5 aircraft is now used as a runway friction test vehicle at Bengaluru Kempgda International Airport. Despite having a full SUV portfolio, Citroen doesn’t have the most time on the sales table. French car brands have been trying to take advantage of the popularity of SUVs in various categories in India. This includes compact SUVs, mid-size SUVs, micro SUVs, and more. These segments attract many new buyers, including those with limited budgets. However, so far, the Citroen model has surpassed its competitors in terms of sales. I encountered a video from Bangalore International Airport Ltd. This video shows how the entire test was performed. Runway quality and friction levels play a vital role for safety purposes. These ensure that the aircraft’s tires have sufficient traction and grip during landing. We know that tragedy can occur if brakes are not applied in time and the plane does not stop in the runway venue.

To simulate wet weather conditions, there is a water tank inside the SUV. It kept spraying water on the runway. The vehicle helps monitor and report the surface condition of the runway to ensure safe landing of the aircraft with optimal traction, regardless of weather. In fact, there is an additional tire behind the rear, with the purpose of replicating the tires of the aircraft to provide as realistic simulation as possible. The initiative is crucial to ensure that there is no adverse situation during actual flight landings.

Citroen C5 Aircross is a flagship product provided by the French automaker in India. In fact, this is the first model to mark Citroen’s entry into India in 2021. The purpose is to establish a brand identity. It draws power from an effective 2.0-liter diesel engine that produces healthy 180 PS and 400 nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. The execution of the transmission responsibility is an 8-speed automatic transmission. The line system ensures smooth shifts for luxurious riding quality. Currently, it has the only functional decor, priced at Rs 3999 crore, in the front showroom.
