Crane unable to pull stuck truck out: Mahindra Thar

Over the past few years, the Mahindra Thar has proven itself to be a tough off-roader. We have seen this SUV perform well off-road. Moreover, this SUV has even proved itself to be a great rescue vehicle. Recently, a video was shared online showing the Mahindra Thar rescuing a truck stuck in the mud of an overpass. The rescue mission was initially attempted by a crane. However, it failed to complete the task.

Mahindra Thar rescues truck stuck in mud

I Lost Dimension shared a video of the Mahindra Thar rescue truck on Instagram. The video starts with a shot of a truck tied to a crane under an overpass. It can be seen that there is a large puddle of water there, and the entire road has become muddy and slippery. The truck is likely stuck because of this reason.

Crane failed to free truck

Later, the video shows that after several tugs, the belt, which was attached to the boom of the crane and was fixed at an angle, broke. The crane then backed out of the way to allow Mahindra Thar to rescue the truck.

Mahindra Thar takes over

Soon after, a red Mahindra Thar appeared in front of the truck. It drove through the puddle and then reversed to tie the truck to the SUV’s towing hook. The video shows a man tying the straps to the front bumper of the truck and the rear towing hook of the Mahindra Thar.

Next, the driver of the Thar started to slowly drive the SUV. During this time, we could notice that the Mahindra Thar easily got out of the jam and the truck was rescued along with it. At one point, the Thar skidded on the muddy terrain; however, it still managed to move forward and complete the rescue mission.

Mahindra Thar Off-Road Features

In terms of off-road equipment, the Mahindra Thar is excellent, it is equipped with a manual shift part-time four-wheel drive system. It is equipped with a low-speed transfer case with a manual shifter. The transfer case can be switched between 2H (two-wheel drive), 4H (four-wheel drive), N (neutral) and 4L (crawl ratio).

Apart from this, the Thar also comes with an electronically controlled brake locking differential. This prevents each axle from slipping, keeping the Thar moving. Additionally, it is equipped with hill hold and hill descent control; both features are useful during off-road adventures.

Mahindra Thar Engine

Mahindra offers a variety of engine options for the Thar. These include a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces around 130 hp and around 320 Nm of torque. It also comes with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 150 hp and 320 Nm of torque.

Both petrol and diesel engines are available with manual and automatic transmission options. In addition, there is a RWD version, which is equipped with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. This engine produces 119 hp and 300 Nm of torque.
