I am comparing the specs, price, features and design of the new Maruti Dzire with the current model. Dzire is the most successful compact sedan in the country. Private individuals as well as fleet operators purchase it for a variety of reasons. Over the past few days, we have witnessed spy shots of the upcoming fourth-generation Dzire on Indian roads. The current Maruti Dzire is on sale in our market with ex-showroom prices starting from Rs 6.57 lakh to Rs 9.34 lakh. These are very competitive prices. Current Maruti Dzire vs New Dzire – Specifications and Mileage

This is where we’ll see a major difference. The current model has a 1.2-liter 4-cylinder K-series naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 90 hp and 113 Nm of peak power and torque. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or an AMT automatic gearbox. This ensures that the needs of all types of customers are met. The mileage of both models is approximately 22.5 km/l. Additionally, the mill is also available in CNG version which produces 77 PS and 98.5 Nm of peak power and torque. In this case, you can only choose the 5-speed manual gearbox. With the CNG incarnation, its fuel economy reaches 31.12 km/kg.

On the other hand, we know that the new Dzire will borrow powertrain options from the new Swift. Therefore, it will be equipped with a new 1.2-liter 3-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The mill produces peak power and torque of 82 PS and 112 Nm. Likewise, transmission options include 5-speed manual gearbox or AMT. While we may see a CNG trim at a later stage, we know that in the Swift, it produces peak power and torque of 69.75 PS and 101.8 Nm. Furthermore, the Swift CNG has a cruising range of 32.85 km/kg. So the difference in mileage and specs will be huge.

Current Maruti Dzire vs New Dzire – Design

This is the next part where you will be able to spot the main differences. In fact, this will be the first time in Dzire’s history that its design is so different from Swift’s. This time, the new-generation model has a unique fascia, a stylish grille section and slim headlight clusters. Additionally, LED daytime running lights are integrated into the headlight console, with a thin chrome strip spanning the width of the vehicle. Below is a huge radiator grille with horizontal strips and a sporty bumper with fog lights on the edges. On the sides, the new Dzire comes with stylish alloy wheels, black ORVMs and B-pillars, and chrome frames around the windows. Finally, the rear is also noticeably different from the outgoing model. There’s a thick chrome plate on the trunk lid that connects to the LED taillights. I feel like the rear bumper is very simple.

On the other hand, the old Maruti Dzire drew design inspiration from the previous generation Swift. As such, it has swept-back headlamps and a large radiator grille in the center. Note that the grille has a chrome frame that accentuates its fascia. Additionally, it features large fog lamp housings with chrome inserts, giving it a sparkling appearance. At the sides, alloy wheels and ORVM-mounted black B-pillars and turn signals accentuate the silhouette. The rear also has a chrome strip connecting the taillights, chrome trim on the rear bumper and a slightly raised tailgate. I think the taillights are a bit big. In any case, the two are completely different in appearance.

Now, we have to wait until the new Maruti Dzire is launched to know the exact details of the car. Nonetheless, since we understand most aspects related to aesthetics, specs and many in-car features, it’s clear that this will be a huge improvement for customers compared to the current model. The Indo-Japanese car brand wants to shed its resemblance to the Swift, and the upcoming Dzire version will do just that. It hopes to offer a slightly more premium ambience, a common request among buyers in this segment. I believe a lot depends on the pricing strategy.
