- The motorcyclist appeared to be traveling too fast for the local area.
- Despite not wearing full protective clothing, the rider avoided serious injury.
- It appears that the actions of both the rider and the driver contributed to the accident.
A US motorcyclist’s lucky death in a brutal car crash has been captured on film. While the rider was quick to blame the driver of a pickup truck that cut in front of him, his own actions also contributed to the accident. The video is an important reminder for all motorists of how quickly things can turn from good to bad in a split second.
In this video, the rider goes from speeding down a country street to being off the pavement in less than 5 seconds. At the beginning of the clip, the speedometer reads 126 km/h (approximately 78 mph), as shown below. Obviously, this kind of street is not suitable for anyone to walk that fast. Although we can’t verify, according to a commenter on Reddit, this is Highway 99 in Cottage Grove, Oregon, where the speed limit is 35 mph (56 km/h).

As the helmet-mounted camera pans from the sport bike’s dashboard, a pickup truck can be seen crossing the road and turning left in the cyclist’s path. If they had kept going, the driver might have swerved, but instead she hit the brakes and stopped in the middle of the road.
With little time to react, the rider began to brake and veer to the right, but in an instant, the front wheel lost grip and the bike tipped to one side. Both bike and rider slid under the truck. As the man stood up, we could see him sliding over 50 feet down the road, in the process appearing to have his jeans severely torn and suffering considerable road rash. All things considered, this should make him feel very lucky, as the outcome could have been much worse.

The destroyed bike left a trail of debris. The rider confronted the driver of the pickup truck and asked, “Why did you stop? Why didn’t you just say yes?” While that’s a valid point, his speed also played a big role. If he’d gone slower, the entire Things could have been avoided. Instead, he’s now missing a pair of jeans, some skin, and probably a motorcycle – but at least he’s still alive.
