Daily Pick: 1931 Ford Pickup Truck Restomod

Despite the rich rewards Restoring a car, I can attest firsthand, is expensive, time-consuming, and very stressful. The alternative is to skip right to the fun part: paying a little more up front and getting something that’s already ready to show (and maybe even win awards)!

Today’s pick is a 1931 Ford half-ton street pickup truck for sale on ClassicCars.com by a private seller in Moraga, California. (Click on the link to view the listing.)

What we have here is a vintage-styled car that mounts an original Henry Ford steel truck body on a Roy Brizio powder-coated frame. Key engineering elements include a Heidts independent front suspension, a 1932 grille, and an aluminum three-piece hood. Under the hood is a 1970 351ci Cleveland V8 that was bored 0.020 inches larger than the original and balanced. I admire the builder of this truck for retaining all of the Ford components, as we often see small-block Chevy engines used in models like this. The engine was reportedly rebuilt by Morgan’s Machine and Marine in Walnut Creek, California.

The improvements don’t stop there, though. Despite being more than 90 years old, this truck still has some popular comfort and safety features, such as air conditioning, a tilt steering column, and Wilwood front disc brakes. The exterior renovation was done by Avenue Auto Body and features a hot rod theme, complete with airbrush flames. The battery is cleverly mounted in a Coca-Cola cooler inside the cabin.

The seller says the truck has only been driven about 4,700 miles since it was completed in 2003. Based on the included underbody photos, it appears to be a fair-weather cruiser, as the interior is still very tidy despite the restoration being completed over two decades ago.

Back to the opening paragraph: It’s pretty cool that just by writing a check you can drive away a truck that reportedly won the Award of Excellence at the Goodguys Nationals in Pleasanton and took first place at the Clayton Community Church Derby and Car Show in 2014. And it may take home even more trophies after you buy it!

Asking price is $35,000 or best offer, and the truck will come with build receipts and documentation.
