If you’ve seen some old car ads, you’ll notice that some manufacturers were directly targeting male buyers. Mercury clearly identified its target customer. According to them, “a man’s car should ride as well as a Lincoln Continental,” which is why they incorporated what they learned from the Lincoln Continental into the Mercury Marquis. In another Marquis ad, Mercury wrote over its tagline “Mercury, a man’s car”: “A man likes a big seat, so we gave it to him.”

In contrast, Buick’s 1963 Riviera brochure states that men and Women will appreciate it. They think ladies will love its “unusually clean, sculptural lines” and the look of its hand-stitched interior.

Men will be drawn to the Riviera’s standard 325-horsepower, 445-pound-foot Wildcat 401ci V8, 340-horsepower engine, and “aircraft-like cockpit.”

I think men and women alike will agree that there’s a lot to like about our latest Pick of the Day, a restored 1963 Riviera. Its calming Marlin Blue paint softens the hard, forward-sloping body lines that make the Riviera look like it’s moving forward even when parked.

The interior combines a solid black and metallic dash and center console with the clean look of four individual white vinyl seats and warm wood trim on the door panels. Who doesn’t love air conditioning and power windows, steering and brakes? Other nice features include white sidewalls, a tilt steering column, a power antenna and an interior trunk release.

One possible point of contention? The $58,500 asking price is a lot for a car that can compete, according to Hagerty. But if your significant other doesn’t mind the price, buy this Riviera and explore more things you can enjoy together.
