Dealership’s mechanic allegedly damaged customer’s Polaris

Local residents also claimed that the dealership would race on local roads while “testing” UTVs

Dealership Mechanic Allegedly Damaged Customer'S Polestar Vehicle, But Dealer Refuses To Compensate
  • A UTV in Oklahoma City reportedly crashed into a customer’s vehicle and would not repair it.
  • The customer claimed the dealer crashed the Polestar while taking it for a joyride on a public street.
  • Locals claim that dealership employees are known for speeding in their UTVs around the neighborhood.

Maxey’s Motorsports in Oklahoma City is facing scrutiny following an incident involving a UTV. According to Mechele Abbot, owner of a 2019 Polaris RZR, the dealership’s mechanic damaged the vehicle, and now Maxey’s won’t pay for the repairs. She reached out to local media for help, but as of this writing, the dealership appears to have taken no steps to resolve the issue.

According to Abbott, she came to own the Polaris UTV because she inherited it after her husband passed away in 2022. The only reason she brought the car to Maxey’s was because her late husband had visited there when he was still alive. But that all changed on February 8, 2023, when she said a dealership employee wrecked the car.

Local news station KFOR said police reports confirmed a vehicle-related accident that day. Apparently, the employee was driving a UTV nearby when they swerved to avoid hitting the child. The RZR flipped over and was damaged. “If Jim was here, no one would drive it, and he would test drive it,” Abbott said. “Those service people knew him, knew he was dead, and knew they could use me.”

According to the operations manager, the store usually pays out for incidents like this, but he would not confirm why this was different. General Manager Tony Maxey also would not comment on the matter. Apparently, this isn’t the only complaint against the store, either.

Widow Claims Mechanic Wrecked Husband'S Polaris And Won'T Fix It

Reports indicate that locals are unhappy with the way employees often drive UTVs through the community. A sign stands on one corner reminding road users to slow down because the street is not a “race track.” The operations manager initially claimed his employees did not do this, but after receiving evidence to the contrary, he said he would talk to them about it.

For now, Abbot just wants her RZR fixed. “I just want whatever their insurance will give me, and I want to keep my husband’s RZR and get away from all this,” she said. Hopefully, Maxey can rectify the situation, or at least provide their side of the story.
