Detroit Science and Technology Exhibition CenterThe Cobo Convention Center is a convention center located along Jefferson and Washington Streets in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It is named after Albert Cobb, mayor of Detroit from 1950 to 1957.
Designed by Gino Rossetti, the center opened in 1960. After an expansion in 1989, the existing 2.4 million square foot (220,000 square meter) building complex contains 723,000 square feet (67,200 square meters) of exhibit space. Initial construction to update and expand the center’s exhibit space began on October 1, 2009, under the facility’s current owner, the Detroit Regional Convention Facilities Authority (DRCFA). Cobo Center has several large adjoining parking lots and direct access to Lodge Highway, a facility located along the Detroit International Riverfront.
