Dodge Charger Daytona already has the highest resale value of electric cars

A new study reveals the models with the highest estimated resale value after three years of ownership.
Lexus won the most model-level awards, but GM won five, including two for the GMC Hummer EV Series.
The Dodge Charger Daytona is expected to be the electric car resale champion.

Depreciation is an unavoidable fact of life, but the items you buy have a big impact on their future resale value. To help consumers, JD Power has released the 2025 U.S. ALG Residual Value Awards, which highlight vehicles expected to retain the highest percentage of MSRP after three years of ownership.

Honda and Lexus took top honors for the fourth year in a row, and the winners were no surprise. JD Power’s Danny Battaglia attributes this success in part to Honda’s pricing discipline and Lexus’ restrictions on incentives, which can negatively impact the resale value of older cars.

In addition to being named the best premium brand, Lexus also won the most awards in the vehicle category. The IS, LS, NX, RX and TX took class honors. Their mainstream rival Toyota also won awards for its Camry and GR Supra, as well as its Tundra and Land Cruiser.

Japanese models dominate the rankings, with Honda taking the top spot with the Civic, Passport and Odyssey, while Subaru takes home the honors with the Crosstrek, Forester and WRX. Other awards went to the Acura Integra and Nissan Kicks.

The American brand may have taken a backseat, but GM has five wins. The Chevrolet Corvette was named the best “midsize premium sports sedan,” while the Cadillac Escalade was named the best large premium SUV. GMC also won awards for the Sierra 3500 HD and the Hummer electric pickup truck and SUV.

Interestingly, the upcoming Dodge Charger Daytona was named the best electric car. While it remains to be seen what the resale value will be in three years, electric coupes are almost unheard of in the United States, so the Charger Daytona has no real competition.

Tesla Model 3 insists on electric cars and is known as the best high-end electric car. On the other hand, Hyundai Kona EV was voted the best electric SUV.

The BMW X1 and 5 Series, Jeep Gladiator and Wagoneer and Kia Telluride also received awards. Mercedes’ only victory came for the Sprinter, which took first place in the commercial van category.
