Dodge Law releases a shadowy image of the new Charger for police use
- The new Charger will serve as the basis for a police car, continuing the tradition of its predecessor.
- The latest trailer shows off an electric version of the muscle car, complete with strobe lights and police uniform.
- The Dodge Charger Pursuit concept is expected to debut in October, though a date has not yet been confirmed.
The eighth-generation Dodge Charger, expected to replace the two-door Challenger and four-door Charger, is one of the most anticipated models of this year. Now, it looks like Dodge is preparing something special for law enforcement. The automaker has released a preview of the Charger Pursuit.
Given the popularity of the outgoing Charger among U.S. law enforcement agencies, it seemed only natural to create a police version of the new model. After all, in a sea of trucks and SUVs, Dodge is the only automaker still offering a four-door sedan suitable for police duty.

The latest teaser shared by the Dodge Law account on Instagram shows the all-electric muscle car, painted like a police car. We can tell it’s a Charger Daytona EV, not an ICE-powered version with the Hurricane I6, because it has smaller bumper air intakes and a recessed hood.
The new Dodge Charger Pursuit concept features a classic black and white paint job, with strobe lights on the roof and the words “Protect and Serve” boldly printed on the hood. The Instagram post quipped, “You didn’t think we’d forget a legend. Stay tuned for more details,” followed by a disclaimer: “Concept model. Not for purchase.”
While the two-door Charger is confirmed for the 2024 model year, the four-door version will debut in the 2025 model year, making it more suitable for use as a police car. Those extra doors make it much easier to escort “guests” into the back seats. Of course, the police version will need a partition to prevent access to the cargo area, as this muscle car is strictly a hatchback.
As for the powertrain, the all-electric Charger Daytona’s dual electric motors could deliver between 456 hp (340 kW / 462 PS) and 670 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and a range of up to 317 miles (510 km) in the most efficient mode. Dodge may also offer an ICE-powered Charger Sixpack variant with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 420-550 hp (310-410 kW / 426-558 PS) depending on the tune.
Mopar Insider says the new concept could debut at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Annual Conference and Expo, which will be held in Boston from October 19 to 22, 2024. Stay tuned—this police car showdown could be a focal point.
