Dodge sells more old challengers and chargers than newer ones

Despite the fact that old chargers and challengers have been discontinued since the end of 2023

  • The charger Daytona EV sells on average only 22 sales throughout the United States every day.
  • Dodge’s total sales fell 49% in the first quarter, with each model down sharply.

It turns out that Americans still like their muscle cars loud, angry and slightly outdated. When Dodge tried to push its performance lineup to the electric era, early numbers showed that many buyers effortlessly abandoned the V8 or V6. In the first quarter, more and more people bought long-covered challengers and chargers on the shiny Daytona EV, which speaks a lot to the position of Dodge buyers’ heads.

From January to March, Dodge sold 1,947 Charger Daytona EVs. This may sound good until you realize they moved 1,052 last-generation ice chargers and 922 challengers during the same period. Combined, that’s 1,974 old-fashioned muscle cars-just knocked out the Daytona EV.

To be fair, it’s a body style targeting one, but considering that these vehicles are works by the museum, the comparison is still stinging. The roots of the charger can be traced back to 2005 and Challenger to 2008, and officially discontinued production by the end of 2023.

Not only is the charger Daytona EV eliminated by the old duo, but in three months, there are only 22 cars a day. Comparing it to Ford, Ford’s 9,377 Mustangs during the same period, even facing a 32% drop in year-on-year sales. If that’s not painful enough, Dodge also sold 9,737 Challengers in the first quarter of 2024. That’s more than five times the sales of new electric vehicles this year.

Stock hangover

Speaking of discontinuation, Dodge still sits among the amazing 2023 chargers and challengers. A stock check shows that there are still 657 chargers and 691 challengers nationwide. The fact that these cars are still jamming a lot 15 months after production ends shows that despite the nostalgia sells, it may not be anytime soon.

Dodge is adding new additions to the charger Daytona lineup to help turn things around. The upcoming four-door version, along with a new internal combustion version powered by Inline Six, could make the brand even more appealing to the traditional Muscle Muscle Muscle Muther ofers. But for the moment, the numbers are not encouraging.

Hard quarters everywhere

Overall, it was a tough quarter for Dodge. The brand’s total sales fell from 42,948 units in Q1 2024 to 21,731 in the quarter, marking a 49% decline. Every model in the lineup took a hit. Bumblebee fell 45% to a total of 4,108 units, while the aging Durango fell by 9%, settling at 13,701 units.
