Erie, Pennsylvania— The next Erie Sports Commission’s Go Play Days will be held at DICK’S on Saturday, Sept. 21. The event will offer free learn-to-play soccer camps to registered participants.
The camp will feature fun drills and games designed to build teamwork and confidence. Participants will learn the basics of soccer including the rules, catching and passing the ball.
Participants can choose from two sessions: the first at 10 a.m. for children aged 6 to 9, and the second at noon for children aged 10 to 13. Each session will last 90 minutes. While the event is free, advance registration is required and will be open on September 9 until the space is filled. Each session will have a maximum of 30 people.
On June 8, DICK’S at Millcreek Mall unveiled its new outdoor sports court, accessible from the store, providing the community with a premier venue for sports and recreational activities. The new outdoor space reflects DICK’S’ commitment to promoting physical fitness and provides a convenient place for athletes of all ages to hone their skills and enjoy the outdoors.
“Go Play Days provides a great opportunity for participants to learn the fundamentals of soccer for free while also promoting the importance of staying active and involved in the community,” said Mark Jeanneret, executive director of the Erie Sports Commission. “By participating in sports, children not only develop physical skills and a love of the game, but also learn valuable life lessons about teamwork, discipline and perseverance. Events like this are critical to fostering a sense of community and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles in young people.”
Previously, Go Play Day events have been hosted by the Erie Youth Hockey Association, the Erie Pickleball Association, the ASCEND Rock Climbing Association and Lakeshore BMX.
