F1: Alpine signs Jack Doohan to replace Esteban Ocon

Alpine has officially announced that Jack Doohan will join its Formula 1 team for the upcoming 2025 season. The Australian, who graduated from the Alpine academy, will be promoted from the reserve driver position to partner Pierre Gasly. Doohan’s promotion follows months of speculation surrounding the successor to Esteban Ocon, who is set to join the Haas team. While Alpine explored options such as Carlos Sainz, they ultimately decided to invest in their own homegrown talent. This is a major milestone for both Doohan and Alpine. As the first Alpine academy driver to be awarded a race seat for the team, Doohan will have the opportunity to showcase his skills on the Formula 1 grid.

Jack Doohan said: “I am delighted to be promoted to a full-time race seat with the BWT Alpine F1 Team in 2025. I am very grateful for the trust and confidence shown by the team’s top management. There is a lot of work ahead and I will do my best to absorb as much information and knowledge as possible to prepare for the promotion. As the first graduate of the Alpine Academy, it is very satisfying to be racing with the team and I am very grateful to those who have supported me along the way to make this happen. It is an exciting moment and a proud day for my family and I am looking forward to giving it my all and working hard behind the scenes.”

Oliver Oakes, Alpine Team Principal, said: “We are very pleased to promote Jack to a racing driver role from next season, giving him the opportunity to showcase his skills and talent in Formula 1. Jack will be the first driver to graduate from the Alpine Academy and join the team as a racing driver, which is very exciting for the team and its young driver pool. Personally, I worked with Jack back in 2019 and I fully understand his talent and potential. He works very hard behind the scenes and the whole team values his commitment. Alongside Pierre, we have a well-balanced driver line-up that offers a perfect combination of youth, experience and pure speed. We look forward to working with Jack and Pierre to continue developing the car and moving up the team’s rankings.”

F1: Alpine Young Driver Program

Jack Doohan becomes Alpine Academy’s first driver to compete in Formula 1 for the team, marking a significant milestone for Doohan and the program. While previous Alpine Academy graduates Guanyu Zhou and Oscar Piastri have found success in Formula 1, they have also had success with other teams. Doohan’s promotion marks a turning point for the program, demonstrating Alpine’s ability to develop young talent.

Doohan made a strategic choice by committing to a full-time reserve driver in 2024. Rather than pursuing a seat in Formula 2 or other motorsport categories, he prioritized his relationship with Alpine, positioning himself as a prime candidate for a potential promotion. His decision paid off, as he will now have the opportunity to showcase his skills in Formula 1.
