F1: Christian Horner admits Red Bull RB20 weaknesses

Verstappen finished sixth at the Italian Grand Prix, 40 seconds behind Charles Leclerc, reducing his lead over Lando Norris to 62 points and Red Bull’s lead over McLaren in the constructors’ championship to eight points.

Red Bull Racing’s Christian Horner admits the team needs to quickly address performance issues following a poor showing at the Italian Grand Prix. After a strong start to the 2024 season, with Max Verstappen winning seven of the first ten races, Red Bull’s momentum has fallen in recent months. Although Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship, his early-season advantage is shrinking as McLaren becomes more competitive. Red Bull must work hard to recover and successfully defend its title as the title race heats up.

“With the pace we had today there was definitely pressure in both championships,” Horner said after the Italian Grand Prix.

“I think this track exposed the flaws in our car compared to last year and I think we had a very clear issue which was highlighted this weekend and we knew we had to take control and fix it or we would be under a lot of pressure.”

Verstappen can breathe a sigh of relief after the Italian Grand Prix as Lando Norris has reduced his points lead to just 62 points. Although Verstappen hasn’t been in great form recently, his consistent points tally has kept him in the lead.

Norris may have little chance in the drivers’ championship battle, but McLaren still has a great chance of competing for the constructors’ championship. Thanks to the competitiveness of the car and the outstanding performances of Norris and Oscar, the team’s recent rise has greatly narrowed the gap with Red Bull.

As the second half of the season begins, the McLaren drivers need to maintain their momentum and continue to challenge for wins. The F1 championship battle will be very intense, with Red Bull and McLaren fighting for the championship, and it will depend on the consistency and performance of both teams.
