F1: Max Verstappen could face grid penalty in Brazil

Reigning Formula One world champion Max Verstappen could face a grid penalty for changing his engine ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix. It comes as Red Bull Racing expressed concerns about his car’s straight-line speed. The problem was highlighted at the recent Mexican Grand Prix, where an unexpected engine change was required due to problems in practice on Friday. While the replacement engine prevented further mechanical failure, its high mileage significantly impacted performance. This was evident in the speed trap data, with Verstappen noticeably slower than his team-mate Sergio Perez. Verstappen’s race was further hampered by two 10-second penalties for an incident with McLaren driver Lando Norris. The Dutchman finished a disappointing sixth place, his lowest result of the season. With four races remaining, Norris finished second, cutting Verstappen’s points lead to 47 points. Although Verstappen has been winless for 10 consecutive races, he still holds a significant advantage in the standings. His last victory came at the Spanish Grand Prix on June 23, 2023.

F1: Battle for the Drivers’ Championship

With Max Verstappen expected to receive a penalty at the Brazilian Grand Prix, the news significantly improves Lando Norris and McLaren’s chances of a strong finish. Verstappen had already received a penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix earlier this season, falling 10 places back. Despite starting from the back of the grid, he finished fourth, demonstrating his incredible driving skills.

While Verstappen’s potential penalty would be a significant development, it’s worth noting that it would only affect the race. His qualifying position in the sprint race will remain unchanged.
