Like a mirage, the future of Faraday

  • Faraday X has announced plans for a luxury minivan called the Super One.
  • The company also teased the FX 6, which appears to be a sporty crossover.
  • Production could begin as early as this year, but that depends on funding and deals being struck.

Faraday Future’s new mainstream brand has previewed two upcoming models and unveiled its logo. Faraday X (FX) also makes some pretty big promises, but we’re not holding our breath.

Starting with products, Faraday X confirmed plans for three models, including an “AI-MPV” called Super One. It’s billed as a “groundbreaking vehicle” that will “meet the dynamic and diverse needs of visionaries and their families.” The company also says it will “deliver twice the performance at half the price.”

Faraday continued to ramble so the details were almost non-existent. The blurry teaser image is pretty telling, as it just shows a regular minivan covered in camouflage.

That being said, Engadget got a preview and they say the Super One comes with two rows of leather seats. Rear passengers are a priority, as there are heated, massaging seats and integrated footrests. The model also comes with a small refrigerator, although it sounds like the van is far from finished.

Faraday X also previewed their FX 6, which is expected to start at between $30,000 and $50,000. It’s billed as a “super-large luxury AIEV” and appears to be a curvy crossover with a sloping roof. We expect to know more about this in March.

Both models are also expected to launch with an entry-level FX 5, which will have a target price of between $20,000 and $30,000. The company hasn’t revealed much about it, but has previously called it a “large space sports AIEV.”

Faraday Future was tight-lipped about performance details, but said “FX models may be offered with two types of powertrains,” including extended-range and battery-electric. The company also said one of the models could go into production by the end of the year, although this “is subject to securing the necessary funding and agreements.”

Of course, this was Faraday Future’s Achilles’ heel as the company lurched from one crisis to the next. The company is said to have sold only “15 or 16” FF 91s, so that’s not exactly a stellar record.
