- This Italian classic damaged the walls of the house when it caught fire.
- The car’s owner was reportedly an electrical engineer, but it was now charred.
Debuting at the 1984 Paris Motor Show, the Ferrari Testarossa was one of the most eye-catching cars the Italian manufacturer had made at the time. It didn’t take long for it to become a cult icon, thanks in part to its starring role in the TV series Miami Vice. Today, the Testarossa is still highly regarded, but sadly, fewer of the cars are on American roads.

The image you are viewing shows a Testarossa catching fire on a property somewhere in California. IMHO, this doesn’t look like the kind of house you’d normally expect to find a rare mid-engine supercar in, and seeing a Testsarossa in such poor condition is enough to unsettle any car enthusiast.

According to a Reddit user /grutru The person who uploaded the photo discovered that the car was owned by his neighbor, who is an electrical engineer and often buys different project cars for restoration. He said the car caught fire during the night and said old fuel lines and electrical wiring could have caused the car to spontaneously ignite.

Of course, it will be difficult to determine the cause of the fire unless police investigators are dispatched to the scene. The fire likely started in the engine compartment, destroying the entire rear half of the Testarossa, including its famous 4.9-liter naturally aspirated boxer-12 engine. The rear window was also broken, as well as both rear quarter windows.
The fire also spread to the house, burning a small section of the wall, but fortunately it was extinguished before the entire house caught fire. Hopefully the owner has comprehensive insurance and will be compensated. If not, they could cost over $150,000, and possibly as much as $200,000, roughly the range in which Testarossas currently trade.
