- Ford said Bosch may not have properly installed the fuel injector O-rings during the production process.
- The recall affects a handful of Ford Explorer, Mustang, Escape and Lincoln Corsair models.
- Owners of affected models will receive recall notices starting September 30.
It looks like there are dozens of 2023, 2024, and 2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles waiting in line for repairs in the U.S. Turns out their fuel injectors may be missing a couple of key components — O-rings and O-ring retaining plates. You know, the kind that prevent fuel from leaking out and turning your engine bay into a potential fire hazard.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the missing O-rings could cause small fuel leaks, which surprisingly could increase the risk of fire. Ford blamed Bosch, claiming that their supplier may have made a small mistake during the production process.

Owners of affected vehicles may notice a fuel odor — both inside and out. If that’s not enough, they may find themselves stranded in their driveway, having trouble starting their vehicle due to a leaking fuel injector.

Fortunately for the Blue Oval, this recall is relatively small, affecting just 24 vehicles in the U.S., including 14 Escapes built between June 27, 2023 and April 4, 2024 for the 2023-2024 model year, two Explorers assembled between May 31, 2024 and July 10, 2024 for the 2025MY, and five 2024MY Mustangs built between July 31, 2023 and March 19, 2024.
There are also three 2023MY Lincoln Corsairs, with production dates from October 12, 2023 to October 20, 2023.
Ford has told dealers not to display or deliver any new inventory vehicles involved in the recall. The company will provide dealers with a full dealer bulletin the week of September 30, 2024, which is expected to provide parts ordering information and repair instructions at that time. Owners of affected Ford and Lincoln models will also receive recall notices starting September 30.
Dealers can correct the problem by simply replacing the fuel injector O-rings and O-ring support plates. Owners who have paid out of pocket to correct the problem will be reimbursed.
