Ford Hyping Mustang GTD Ahead of December, Nurburgring Time

  • The 2017 SRT Viper ACR is by far the fastest American car around the Nürburgring.
  • Ford claims the Mustang GTD is faster and can drop to under 7 minutes.
  • Powering this GT3-inspired muscle car is a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing 825 horsepower.

Ford has been clear about its intention to take the limited-edition Mustang GTD to the Nürburgring and create a lap lap. The GTD is a different kind of Mustang, and if Ford wants the world to believe it’s a legitimate rival to Europe’s best Mustangs, it needs a “ring time” to prove it. Soon, we’ll know when that time is.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106 -c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);

As early as May this year, the Mustang GTD was spotted roaring around the famous German track several times, and on December 10, its lap time will be revealed. The announcement will be accompanied by a film titled ” Ford Mustang GTD: Road to the Loopdetailing Ford’s efforts to break the seven-minute mark.

No American-made car can complete the Green Hell in under 7 minutes. The current American record is held by a 2017 SRT Viper ACR with a time of 7:01.30. That time is set by a private team rather than the manufacturer itself. Ford employees seen in the trailer have repeatedly stated that sub-7-minute lap times are the goal, so not hitting that target on December 10th would be disappointing.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“0f7e3106 -c4d6-4db4-8135-c508879a76f8”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“82503191-e1d1-435a-874f-9c78a2a54a2f”);

How fast can the Mustang GTD go? If it falls below the seven-minute mark, it would rival the Ferrari 296 GTB that set a lap time of 6 minutes, 58.70 seconds mid-last year. If it’s faster than that, it could join an elite group of companies like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. However, matching the GT Black Series’ benchmark time of 6:43.616 and the GT3 RS’ best time of 6:44.848 will be a very difficult task.

In terms of power, the GTD undoubtedly has the advantage. Its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine can output 825 horsepower, which is significantly more than Porsche and AMG. It also features an extreme aerodynamic package and clever suspension, which will go a long way in helping it achieve its sub-7-minute mark. However, it’s likely to weigh more than both of its German rivals, although Ford hasn’t released its official figures yet.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:()}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“bb7964e9 -07de-4b06-a83e-ead35079d53c”); } else { adpushup.triggerAd(“9b1169d9-7a89-4971-a77f-1397f7588751”);
