— Ford battery issues have sparked an investigation into battery failures and loss of charge in 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the investigation includes more than 456,500 Ford vehicles.
In January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) launched an investigation after 2021 Ford Bronco Sport owners complained that their vehicles were losing power while driving.
The Ford Mustang Sport loses all power and electrical systems while driving, but most drivers report no warning lights or messages indicating the problem.
These owners also stated that the problem was resolved by replacing the 12-volt battery.
In April this year, Ford announced a recall of more than 456,000 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick vehicles due to 12V battery failure.
Ford dealers have been told to update software in the body control and powertrain control modules, which warn drivers if there is a problem with charging the 12V battery.
However, owners continue to complain that their Ford Mustang Sport is still losing all power without any warning of the problem. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a faulty 12-volt battery and the only repair needed was to replace the battery.
NHTSA has begun an investigation into the 2021-2024 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick to determine whether the April recall is valid.
A few days ago, the government announced that Ford had agreed to pay $165 million for failing to comply with recall procedures.
