- More than 164,000 of the affected models are located in Germany and were produced between 2014 and 2020.
- It is believed that small cracks in the particulate filter could cause a vehicle to fail an exhaust gas test.
- Ford plans to notify all affected owners by the end of the year and offer free filter replacements.
Following news of a new recall, Ford has prepared an unwelcome holiday gift for more than 768,000 diesel vehicle owners around the world. We suspect Ford, which has been working hard to improve quality and reduce recalls, would prefer to end the calendar year on a more positive note than this.
News of the recall first broke in Germany, where it has been confirmed that the recall affects 164,168 vehicles. These include the Ford EcoSport, Fiesta, Focus, B-Max, C-Max, Galaxy, Kuga, Mondeo, Grand C-Max, Ranger, S-Max, Tourneo Connect, Transit Connect and Transit Courier assembled in 2014 and 2020.

There is a problem with the diesel particulate filter on the affected models, and Ford reportedly became aware of the potential issue in mid-2023 after using new testing methods. A small crack developed in the filter, causing it to fail the exhaust test. A total of 768,927 diesel models have been recalled globally, but it is not clear in which markets the cars are located.
Owners of affected vehicles will receive recall notices before the end of the year. In Germany, owners will be asked to take their vehicles to a Ford dealer, where the particulate filter will be inspected and replaced if damaged. If the vehicle owner has repaired or replaced the particulate filter at their own expense, the vehicle manufacturer will evaluate the individual situation and determine whether to provide compensation. Newly installed filters will come with a 10-year/160,000km warranty.
Anyone who owns an affected vehicle outside of Germany would be wise to seek out local safety agency news for the latest information on the recall process.
