Ford Transit Custom Nugget camper van series gets new activities

The new camper is available with either a 168 hp diesel engine or a 230 hp gasoline plug-in hybrid system

Ford has expanded its Transit Custom Nugget camper van range in Europe with the introduction of new rugged and long-wheelbase versions. The new models will be on display at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf, Germany, from August 30 to September 8.

Developed in conjunction with camper conversion Westfalia, the new Active version adds some flair to the Ford. It’s based on the existing Titanium model but now features a new grille, black plastic rocker panels, black exterior cladding, unique 17-inch machined alloy wheels and LED taillights.

There’s a lot that’s special about the interior of the Ford camper van, too. Waterproof and durable fabric trims the seats, and there’s a large touchscreen that can be used to monitor and control all the important vehicle functions, such as lights, heating and water levels.

Safety features are plentiful, too. They include a driver assistance package with pre-collision assist, reverse brake assist, a blind spot information system, and adaptive cruise control. Buyers can order the Transit Custom Nugget Active with all-wheel drive, which comes with the entry-level 168-horsepower EcoBlue diesel engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Consumers who need the extra space would be better off opting for the long wheelbase version, available on Titanium and Active models. By increasing the space between the wheels, Ford has provided a larger kitchen area, offering more bench space and more storage for pans and cutlery. Larger built-in wardrobes are also available. As with the standard wheelbase model, heated swivel front seats are standard.

Sitting above the diesel in the range is a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and an 11.8-kilowatt-hour battery pack for a total of 230 horsepower.
