Ford truck gear lever can be separated from steering column

March 26, 2025 – The Ford Super Truck Shifter could fall off the steering column, which is a problem with recalling nearly 12,000 trucks.

Recalls are some 2025 Ford F-250, Ford F-350 and Ford F-450 super duty trucks with gear shifters with steering columns. However, a recall is necessary because the steering column assembly is connected to the steering column with an unaligned weld.

“If the shifter mechanism is disengaged when the vehicle is not in the park, the driver will not be able to participate in the park. In this case, if the parking brake is not manually applied, the vehicle may roll, increasing the risk of a crash.” – Ford

Ford learned about the steering column issue in February, when the super liability steering column gear lever was separated from the steering column.

Two steering column warranty statements were also received, showing that the Ford truck gear shift mechanism separated from the steering column when the truck was parked, and could not be moved out of the park.

The driver will receive an audible warning and send a message that the super duty truck is not in the park when they open the door or close the ignition switch. If there is a physical key, the driver will notice that the key cannot be deleted from the ignition switch.

Additionally, the dash cluster will remain awake and the driver will receive these audible warnings and cluster messages even if the truck is shut down.

Ford didn’t know of any crash or injury reports.

Ford dealers will check the super liability steering column serial number and replace the steering column if needed.

The Ford Truck Steering Column recall is expected to be mailed on April 24, 2025.
