- General Motors is about to launch a variety of electric vehicles, including the new Chevrolet Bolt and various Cadillac vehicles.
The electric revolution is moving slower than many automakers expected, but it’s still gaining momentum. This is evident when General Motors announced that they have sold more than 300,000 electric vehicles in the United States since launching the Chevrolet Bolt in late 2016.

While that specific model no longer exists, GM’s electric vehicle lineup has exploded in the past few years, with the company launching the Cadillac Lyriq and a slew of Chevrolet models, including the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, and Silverado EV. They are also joined by the GMC Sierra EV and Hummer EV range.

GM no longer releases monthly sales figures, but it delivered more than 32,000 electric vehicles in the United States in the third quarter. It increased by 46% month-on-month and 60% higher than last year.

The Lyriq has been in the lead, with sales of 20,318 units so far this year. Following closely behind is the luxury crossover Blazer EV with 15,232 sales, although both will likely be surpassed by the Equinox EV. The affordable electric crossover has been so popular with consumers that GM delivered 9,772 units in the third quarter alone.
GM says this diverse lineup means it has electric vehicles for “virtually every type of driver.” Cadillac also launched a series of new models such as Optiq, Vistiq, Lyriq-V and Escalade IQ. The Chevrolet Bolt is also scheduled to return next year as an affordable mass-market option.
Although General Motors became the second-largest seller of electric vehicles in the third quarter with 32,095 sales, it still lags far behind Tesla. However, Cox Automotive recently noted that they have surpassed Hyundai Motor Group (29,609) and are miles ahead of Ford (23,509).
