General Motors Special Insurance N192219480 Program Ended

1.3 million Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook vehicles are affected.

— The GM seat belt investigation began on August 31, 2020 and ended four years later.

More than 1.3 million GM vehicles are affected:

  • 2009-2014 GMC Acadia

  • 2009-2014 Buick Enclave

  • 2009-2014 Chevrolet Traverse

  • 2009-2010 Saturn Outlook

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into General Motors’ vehicle recall due to seat belt problems.

Specifically, owners complained about the flexible steel seatbelt anchor cables on the outside of the front seats coming off.

The vehicles were supposed to be repaired under a 2014 GM seatbelt recall, but NHTSA launched a recall investigation in 2019 after owners continued to complain about seatbelt issues.

In June 2019, GM announced the launch of free special insurance N192219480 program, covering 1,345,693 vehicles that had previously been recalled.

The warranty covers replacement parts for 12 years or 180,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the date the vehicle was first sold. Special Warranty N192219480 instructs GM dealer technicians to inspect the protective cover of the driver’s seat belt retaining cable for any damage (see the above picture).

Replaced with new cable protection cover and other parts that changed the cable position.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration upgraded its investigation into GM in September 2020, but the safety regulator said no further action was necessary.

“Based on GM’s specific reporting of the high detectability and low occurrence rate of this fault, this engineering analysis has been closed.” – National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
