Genesis Australia Recalling its early examples G70 and G80 Sedans, because of manufacturing defects that could cause fires.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the seal on the starter motor may not be adequate, allowing moisture to enter the unit,” the company said in the recall notice.
“If this happens, it could cause a short circuit, resulting in a fire in the engine compartment while the vehicle is parked or moving.
“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or cause property damage.”
Genesis said affected vehicles should be parked in an open area away from flammable materials and buildings until the starter motor is replaced.
This means that car owners should not park their vehicles in garages.
Earlier G80 (badged as Hyundai Genesis) models have also been recalled.
