Genesis GV70 facelift electric model is coming soon with powerful power

The EV’s enhancements mirror those of the ICE GV70, including a 27-inch instrument cluster and media display, as well as new lights and bumpers

Genesis GV70 facelift revealed as electric with large dashboard screen and minor styling updates
  • Spy photographers have captured photos of the facelifted Genesis GV70 Electrified undergoing testing in Europe.
  • The EV version of this crossover gets the same updates that were confirmed for the ICE GV70 in April.
  • Changes include new lights and bumpers and a large 27-inch digital display.

Genesis recently caught our attention with the launch of its Magma high-performance sub-brand, but that’s not all the company has been working on. The company is also refreshing its existing luxury-focused lineup, including the GV70 Electrified shown here.

Or not visible here, because like any Hyundai Group prototype, this test car is hidden under a mountain of black nylon camouflage with various foam blocks added underneath in an attempt to keep its secret intact ahead of the launch.

This is a bit pointless, since we already know 95 percent of what’s hiding under the camouflage. Genesis let us know back in April when it unveiled the revamped internal combustion GV70.

The car’s exterior has received some subtle updates, including a new set of headlights at the front that surround a revised grille and a redesigned bumper with larger air intakes. The rear styling tweaks are less noticeable, but the turn signals are now integrated into the taillights, and the Genesis design team has also designed some new alloy wheels.

But the Electrified EV will once again feature a different grille, which is covered up since it doesn’t have the cooling requirements of the ICE version, although the camouflage that’s been revealed on this prototype shows it will still display the Genesis crosshatch design.

The biggest changes to the Electrified occur inside the cabin, where, judging by what we’ve seen on the ICE model, Genesis has installed a 27-inch instrument cluster and infotainment screen that takes up almost two-thirds of the car.

Touch-sensitive buttons on the console control climate settings, and there’s a new steering wheel — cars equipped with the Sport package get a flat-bottomed steering wheel — that also features a rear diffuser, dark chrome exhaust tips, new 21-inch wheels, and a unique grille pattern. Genesis doesn’t currently offer a Sport trim for the GV70 Electrified in the U.S., but given the brand’s new focus on performance, we’re guessing that could change.

Hopefully, Genesis will also make some changes under the hood to improve the current EV’s poor range. The EPA rates the 483-horsepower (490 PS) dual-motor GV70 at just 236 miles (380 km) of range, but a significant increase in range would mean upgrading the 77.4-kWh battery to something larger. The facelifted G80 electric sedan recently had its battery capacity increased from 87.2 kWh to 95.4 kWh, so there’s hope.

Although Genesis unveiled the facelifted GV70 in April and it went on sale in South Korea the following month, the facelifted gas-powered crossover won’t arrive in the U.S. until 2025 as the MY26. We’re guessing the EV will make its global debut in the coming months and will arrive in North America at the same time as the ICE car.
