The news is out! Studio Bones has announced their new project, the Gachiakuta anime series based on the Kodansha manga serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Rudo lives in a ghetto of a stratified society where the rich dump the unwanted into a mysterious abyss along with their trash. When he is wrongly accused of murder and brought down, Rudo discovers another world—and a potential path to revenge.

Members of Studio Bones will be at AX alongside the manga’s editors to introduce the world of Gachiakuta and reveal their vision for bringing the manga’s bold art style and timely story to the screen in an unprecedented animated format. YouTuber, narrator, and voice actor The Anime Man will join them as presenters.

Before checking out the panel discussion, here are some profiles of some of the key players involved in Gachiakuta manga and anime.

Kei Urana, Hideyoshi Ando
The manga artist behind Gachiakuta. Urana worked as Atsushi Okubo’s assistant in Blazing Blaze and is a fan of his earlier work Soul Eater. Her single-volume manga Shikido won first prize at the 103rd Newcomer Manga Award held by Shonen Magazine. She gave form to the world of Gachiakuta with Andou, whose graffiti completes the manga’s unique street style.

Bone Studio
The renowned animation production studio was founded in 1998 by producer Masahiko Minami and animators Hiroshi Osaka and Toshihiro Kawamoto. Over the past 25 years, they have contributed their skills to numerous productions, from Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and Sky Escapades to the Fullmetal Alchemist and My Hero Academia series and films. Fun fact: their name partly comes from the Showa-era song “Honing Ashtar” (Love me to my bones) was created by singer Takuya Jou because they wanted to create a studio that would be loved by everyone.

Director Fumihiko Suganuma
He is known for directing “The First Slam Dunk”, “Shirobako” and “The Weird Family”/”The Uchida Family”.

Series composition
A screenwriter known for his series composition and screenplay writing for Attack on Titan – Final Season and Windbreaker.

Satoshi Ishino, character designer and chief animation director
A skilled animator who served as the lead animation director for Godzilla Singularity and AICO Incarnation.
