GM says that over time, the 10-speed transmission control valve may suffer excess wear and cause pressure loss in the valve. The result is a hard shift, in a “very rare case” the front wheel can encounter a “temporary” lock that occurs in downshifts in the eighth gear.
“Overlasting wear inside the transmission control valve body can cause liquid leakage, resulting in pressure drop, which causes unexpected movement of certain valves.” – General Motors
GM dealers will install new transmission control module software, which will monitor the performance of the transmission and detect about 10,000 miles of excess wear before wheel locking occurs.
If something goes wrong, the gearbox will be limited to fifth gear, which will prevent the possibility of wheel locking. Additionally, the driver will see the service engine’s lights and reduced propulsion messages in the dashboard.
GM’s 10-speed transmission recall letter is expected to be mailed on April 21, 2025.
Cadillac owners can call 800-333-4223 and Chevrolet customers can call 800-222-1020. GM’s 10-speed transmission recall number is N242480630.
