Ola Electric has caused a lot of buzz and headlines in its recent past, not for good reason. The company is facing major backlash on social media and has faced with raids, seized vehicles, misleading advertising, clashes with the government, poor sales reputation after sales, default on payments, labor layoffs, missing PLI program deadlines, sales sales and more.
Now, Ola Electric has found itself in another sticky state due to the registration differences in February 2025. When we look at the actual registrations seen on the Vahan Portal, the official sales figures produced by Ola Electric have night and day differences. The Ministry of Heavy Industry has instructed Arai to conduct an investigation.
Government investigation into Ora Electric
If we look at Ola’s sales results for February 2025, we can see that Vahan Portal shows only 8,647 registrations. It was a huge downfall for Ola, as the company’s sales fell 74.5% and sales mom fell 64.5%.
However, Ora claims the company sold about 25,000 units in February 2025, and the difference was due to negotiations and optimizations during the registration process. This creates a huge difference in registered vehicles and the company claims that their sales performance.
The Ministry of Heavy Industry has directed Arai (Indian Automotive Research Association) to investigate whether such differences comply with corporate legal and regulatory standards. Arai’s investigation will also include the recent controversy over Ola’s sale of electric scooters without trade certificates in a handful of authorized dealers.
Arai’s survey will also be expanded to determine whether the company has service centers in all cities with sales operations. After investigating Ola Electric’s practice and operations, Arai will compile a detailed report by Arai and submit it to the Ministry of Heavy Industry.
I found the malfeasance and the scooter caught it
RTO authorities in Pune and Mumbai began raiding some OLA-authorized dealers and captured 36 electric scooters that failed to meet compliance requirements. In Punjab, many OLA dealerships have been closed, and in locations such as Jabalpur, the RTO authorities have issued notices to Ola Electric because the sale of scooters does not have registered and valid trade certificates.
Ola Electric’s Voes in India appear to be growing, and if any discrepancies are found, Bhavish Aggrawal LED electric mobility solutions provider will be responsible. Ola Electric has not made public statements about developments related to sales differences and malfeasance, such as the sale of vehicles without registration and trade certificates.
