Maruti Baleno ranked first as best-selling car and best-selling hatchback in India in November 2024 with sales of 16,293 units
Indian hatchbacks continue to play a significant role in the car segment with sales of 81,551 units in November 2024. The month-on-month sales were also down 8.75% from the 89,369 units sold in October 2024, a month in which many Indian automakers held celebrations and offered a large number of discounts and benefits. In November 2024, Maruti Baleno topped the list with sales of 16,293 units. It’s the best-selling hatchback and the best-selling car of the past month. Compared with 12,961 units sold in November 2023, it increased by 25.71% year-on-year, and sales increased by 3,332 units. Baleno currently occupies 19.98% of the market share, achieving a month-on-month growth of 1.3% from 16,082 units sold in October 2024.
Also from Maruti is the Swift, whose sales fell 3.75% year-on-year and 15.98% month-on-month to 14,737 units. 15,311 units and 17,539 units were sold in November 2023 and October 2024 respectively. Swift holds 18.07% market share. The third model on the list of best-selling hatchbacks is the WagonR, with sales of 13,982 units, a year-on-year decrease of 15.60% from the 16,567 units sold in November 2023. The WagonR has long been praised for its versatility, catering to the needs of budget-conscious buyers in the country, thanks to its superior fuel efficiency. Its sales increased slightly by 0.43% month-on-month and currently occupy 17.15% of the market share. Maruti Alto fell 7.54% year-on-year and 12.65% month-on-month. Sales dropped to 7,467 units in the past month.
Demand for the Hyundai i10 NIOS increased last month, with sales increasing 20.37% year-on-year to 5,667 units, up from 4,708 units sold in November 2023. However, its month-on-month sales fell by 9.11% from the 6,235 units sold in October 2024. Followed by Tata Tiago/EV, which sold 5,319 units last month, down 3.43% year-on-year but up 13.61% month-on-month. Tiago and Tigor will also receive facelifts later this year.
The best-selling hatchback sales list in November 2024 also includes Hyundai i20 (3,925 units), Toyota Glanza (3,806 units) and Maruti Celerio (2,379 units). Although sales of the i20 and Glanza declined year-on-year and month-on-month, the Celerio received more attention, with sales increasing by 7.40% from 2,215 units in November 2023. The demand for Maruti S-Presso is also high with sales of 2,283 units last month. It is the only model other than Baleno to achieve year-on-year and month-on-month growth.
Ignis, Altroz, Comet, Kwid – Sales November 2024
Ranking lower on the list of best-selling hatchbacks in November 2024 is Maruti Ignis, whose sales increased by 32.71% year-on-year to 2,203 units. In November 2023, 1,660 units were sold, while sales in October 2024 increased significantly to 2,663 units. The Tata Altroz performed poorly in the hatchback segment, with sales of 2,083 units last month, a year-on-year decrease of 57.96% and a month-on-month decrease of 21.16%. Demand for the MG Comet EV (600 units), Renault Kwid (546 units) and Citroen C3 (200 units) also declined severely, while demand for the Citroen eC3 EV increased 238.89% year-on-year to 61 units from 61 units in November 2024 . 18 units were sold in the same month last year. However, compared with the 89 sales in October 2024, this represents a month-on-month decrease of 31.46%.
