Hero MotoCorp’s sales in July 2024 fell sharply both year-on-year and month-on-month, with only 3.37 units sold
Hero MotoCorp was surpassed by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) in the domestic market with a staggering sales margin of 1,01,819 units. This is the first time that Honda’s two-wheeler domestic sales have surpassed Hero MotoCorp. Hero MotoCorp said that supply chain constraints and logistics disruptions have severely impacted its shipments in the past one month. However, the company is looking forward to a rebound during the festive season and once again clinching the top spot in the list of India’s best-selling two-wheeler OEMs.
Hero MotoCorp – July 2024 domestic sales YoY
Hero MotoCorp’s domestic sales fell 11.34% year-on-year to 3,37,299 units. The sales were down 43,152 units compared to 3,80,451 units sold in July 2023. Except for the Pleasure and Xtreme 160/200, which were in high demand, almost all models in the company’s portfolio suffered a sales decline.
Hero Splendor, which accounts for 62.67% of the company’s portfolio, continues to top the sales charts despite a year-on-year decline of 11.28% in sales till July 2024. Last month, it sold 2,11,400 units, down from 2,38,267 units in July 2023. Hero Splendor also continued to be the best-selling motorcycle last month, far ahead of Honda Shine.
Hero HF Deluxe sales fell 29.28% year-on-year to 46,627 units from 65,931 units in the same period last year. The HF Deluxe currently commands a 13.82% market share, followed by the Xtreme 125R which sold 25,840 units last month. This is a relatively new model in the company’s portfolio, hitting the showrooms on February 20, 2024, and is Hero’s first motorcycle in the 125cc segment.
Hero Pleasure sales rose 64.08% to 13,748 units from 8,379 units in July 2023. Passion sales fell sharply by 66.72% to just 11,399 units last month from 34,253 units in July 2023, while Glamour sales also fell 13.33% year-on-year to 9,479 units. Hero Destini sales fell 20.64% year-on-year to 5,709 units, while Hero Vida sold 4,600 units last month.
Sales of Xoom (3,106 units) fell 64.19% year-on-year, while sales of Xpulse 200 (2,523 units) fell 30.50% year-on-year. Xtreme 160/200 sales achieved triple-digit growth, increasing by 116.08% to 2,070 units sold in July 2024, compared to only 958 units sold in the same period last year. The list also includes Karizma 210 (529 units), Mavrick 440 (269 units), while Maestro sales fell 100% year-on-year to 0 units, compared to 2,229 units sold in July 2023.
Monthly sales in July 2024
Hero MotoCorp’s monthly sales fell more sharply month-on-month, down 31.27% on sales of 1,53,444 units from 4,90,743 units in June 2024. The sales of Splendor fell 30.82% from 3,05,586 units, while the sales of HF Deluxe fell 48.16% from 89,941 units in June 2024. However, the sales of Hero Xtreme 125R and Pleasure increased by 22.73% and 56.65% month-on-month, respectively, adding some positivity to the sales chart.
On the sales chart, sales of Pleasure (-12.98%), Glamour (-60.76%) and Destini 125 (-48.75%) declined month-on-month, while Vida sales increased by 13.89% to 4,600 units last month from 4,039 units in June 2024. Sales of Hero Xoom (-36.69%), Xpulse 200 (-36.27%) and Xtreme 160/200 (-34.03%) also declined month-on-month, while sales of Karisma 210 increased by 11.13%. Sales of Mavrick 440 and Maestro fell by 41.39% and 100%, respectively.
