The new Hero Xpulse 421 will challenge competitors such as Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure R when launched
Adopting a similar strategy as other local OEMs, Hero MotoCorp has started adding higher capacity bikes to its product portfolio. At EICMA 2024, two new quarter-litre bikes were launched – Karizma XMR 250 and Xtreme 250R. Now, Hero has also revealed the upcoming Xpulse 421.
Hero Xpulse 421 – What to Expect?
For competitors like the Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure, any new product launched must have top-notch performance. Hero Xpulse 421 will use a new 420cc engine that is expected to produce around 43 to 45 horsepower. In comparison, the Himalayan 450 produces around 40 bhp and 40 Nm. Exact numbers for the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure have not yet been announced. Although the general expectation is around 45 bhp and 40 Nm of torque.
Hero will ensure ground performance matches competitors’ products. With Hero’s competitive pricing strategy, the Xpulse 421 could be the most affordable product in its category. The initial offer price of Hero Xpulse 421 is likely to be around Rs 2.80 lakh. However, assuming there will be multiple variants, the base-spec version with limited features may be priced lower.
At EICMA 2024, Hero only gave a glimpse of a few sketches and clay models of the bike. Some of the key highlights include stylish LED headlamps with LED DRLs, large windscreen, knuckle guards, polygonal rear view mirror and stylish fuel tank design. The bike’s engine is fully protected by a sturdy bumper plate. Since the exhaust pipe is close to the rider’s legs, a heat shield was added. This positioning of the exhaust pipe is necessary due to the high-mounted exhaust.
Hero Xpulse 421 – Gear List
To compete effectively with its rivals, the Hero Xpulse 421 will get comprehensive features. For example, the trailer reveals the presence of a horizontally positioned color TFT screen. It may have Bluetooth functionality, allowing users to access a range of connectivity features. The Hero Xpulse 421 is also expected to get various electronic driving assistance features such as traction control and driving modes.
Other highlights include gold-finished USD forks, monoshock rear suspension, box-section swingarm and switchable ABS. The bike is expected to come with a combination of 21-inch and 18-inch wheels shod with dual-purpose tires. Tubeless tires would be ideal, but it’s unclear if the Hero Xpulse 421 will come with these.
Hero Xpulse 421 – Release Date
The exact timetable for Xpulse 421’s availability is unclear. The bike must undergo extensive testing, which may take several months. Hero may launch the Xpulse 421 in 2025 or early 2026. The company will surely be keen on launching its flagship adventure bike at the earliest. This segment is generating strong interest and has huge growth potential.
Hero has tasted success with the smaller capacity Xpulse and will be looking to achieve similar goals with the Xpulse 421. At EICMA 2024, Hero also launched the Xpulse 210 and the updated Mavrick 440.
