Hertz slashes Shelby Mustang Mach-E prices, some models only have 3,000 miles
  • Most Shelby Mustang Mach-Es have less than 10,000 miles.
  • Hertz and Shelby teamed up to produce just 100 of the special electric cars.
  • All cars are equipped with Borla’s active performance exhaust sound system.

If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a rare electric Mustang with a Shelby badge, Hertz might have a deal for you — well, “deal” might be a bit of a stretch. The car rental giant has quietly dropped the price of its exclusive Shelby-modified Ford Mustang Mach-E GT, making it possible to get a car with extremely low mileage for just $60,000. Let’s say you’re ready to spend that much cash on a car that you previously leased.

That’s a big change compared to some of the other electric cars Hertz has sold in recent months, especially considering the new Mustang Mach-E GT starts at $54,490. But the Shelby version does have one key element that its standard brother can’t offer: exclusivity.

Hertz teamed up with Shelby to create this special edition Mustang Mach-E GT, with only 100 units produced. 63 of them are now for sale through Hertz Car Sales. Most are found in Texas, Arizona, California, Nevada and Florida. All but 10 Shelby Mach-Es are priced at $60,000.

For reference, just two months ago, the cheapest of these electric cars cost $65,000, albeit with ranges ranging from 10,000 miles to more than 63,000 miles. Now, you can buy a car with just 3,048 miles for $60,000, suggesting Hertz may have been working to move inventory and decided to increase profits with lower prices. As of this writing, we found more than 10 examples with less than 4,000 miles and another 10 with less than 5,000 miles.

What’s so special about the Shelby Mach-E GT?

Let’s be honest, you’re not just buying this car for the specs; you’re buying it for its performance. It’s all about badges and exclusivity. But the Shelby version does get some visual and performance tweaks to set it apart from the regular GT. Visually, it gets a special vented hood, matte gold trim, carbon fiber on the rocker panels and special black wheels.

It also comes with Borla’s Active Performance exhaust audio system, which attempts to mimic the rumble of an internal combustion engine. If you’ve always wanted a faux V8 soundtrack for your electric car, this one has you covered.

Of course, if you choose base gray to get the $7,500 federal tax credit, you can buy a brand new Tesla Model 3 Performance for the same price or even less, but the car doesn’t have the Shelby nameplate. Most electric cars also don’t have the same level of exclusivity as the Shelby Mach-E GT.

With only 100 built, it’s possible these Mach-Es will become collector’s items in the coming years, but they’re also electric cars, so any debate about their collectible status is premature.
