Honda and Sony's Afeela 1 EV starts at $89,900, with first deliveries in 2026
  • This electric sedan targets the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air.
  • Shoppers can put down a $200 refundable deposit to secure their spot in line.
  • The finished version is expected to deliver 483 horsepower and have a range of 300 miles (483 kilometers).

Honda and Sony are working hard to convince potential electric car buyers that they should opt for a stylish and innovative sedan simply called the 1. The new model has been in the works for several years, and at CES, the Afeela brand has opened reservations to customers in California.

The companies said Afeela 1 “pursues the interactive relationship between people and vehicles” and will reach customers in mid-2026. It’s not cheap. Afeela will sell the electric vehicle in two forms, starting at $89,900, which includes a free 3-year subscription to select features such as Afeela Smart Driving, Afeela Personal Agent and entertainment content. The base model is called Origin, while the flagship model is called Signature.

Like some other new players in the EV market, Afeela will start delivering its flagship model ahead of the arrival of the 1 Origin. The Signature starts at $102,900 and comes equipped with 21-inch wheels, a rear entertainment system and a central camera surveillance system. Afeela also appears to be following Tesla’s lead and only selling its electric sedan in three colors: Tide Gray, Serenity White, and Core Black.

The Afeela 1 starts at $89,900 and goes up to $102,900, which is comparable to the price of the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S. Interested buyers will need to pay a $200 refundable deposit to get in line. Sales will begin later this year. Afeela has not yet announced when the car will be available outside of California.

Afeela showed off a modestly updated version of last year’s prototype at CES. It promises production models will have a range of 300 miles (483 kilometers) and that the electric cars will support Tesla’s Supercharger network at launch. It is speculated that the production model will be equipped with the same 91 kWh lithium-ion battery pack as the prototype, driving a pair of electric motors capable of outputting 483 horsepower.

One of the most important features is Afeela Smart Driving. This is the brand’s proprietary ADAS that uses cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and lidar to provide advanced driver assistance features. However, it’s unclear what level of autonomy it provides.
