— Problems with Honda’s automatic emergency braking prompted a federal investigation that has now been expanded and escalated.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched an investigation into Honda’s braking system in March 2024 after receiving complaints that the automatic emergency braking system was inadvertently activated.
Drivers complain that their 2019-2022 Honda Insight and 2019-2022 Honda Passport vehicles suddenly slow down, even though there are no objects on the road.
Honda’s automatic emergency braking is supposed to warn the driver of approaching objects in the road, but if the driver ignores the warning, the system will apply the brakes automatically.
Honda Insight and Passport owners have complained about dealers’ inability to replicate automatic emergency braking issues, with some customers saying dealers claim the systems are working as expected.
Three crashes and two injuries were allegedly caused by issues with Honda’s automatic emergency braking, NHTSA said.
The government will investigate these issues more deeply, and NHTSA has included the 2023 Honda Passport in its investigation.
CarComplaints.com will update our website with the results of the Honda Automatic Emergency Braking investigation.
