Honda full-size SUV could be part of partnership with

Gadivadi –

Honda may design a new full-size SUV of its own for the Nissan Armada, but no official confirmation yet

Nissan and Honda revealed plans to pursue potential business integration and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last month. The tie-up could lead to the creation of a joint holding company, potentially creating the world’s third-largest automaker. A final decision on the partnership is expected to be made this month.

The tie-up is more likely to result in the two Japanese auto giants sharing architecture in different areas while leveraging each other’s strengths in different divisions. International media reports suggest Honda could leverage Nissan’s influence in large cars to launch its own model range, including a Nissan Armada derivative.

Honda may be designing a full-size SUV in the near future to rival the likes of the Ford Expedition, Jeep Wagoneer, Toyota Sequoia, and Lexus LX and Cadillac Escalade. A higher-end version of the Cadillac Escalade competition may also appear. In the US market, Honda sells an eight-seat Pilot with a total length of just over five meters.

In comparison, the Nissan Armada is larger, powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that produces 425 horsepower and nearly 700 Nm of torque. While it’s yet to be officially confirmed, the possibilities are certainly endless. Both Nissan and Honda recognize the common goal of advancing electrification and vehicle intelligence. The two manufacturers previously collaborated on joint research focused on software-defined vehicle platforms.

The companies aim to reduce development costs, improve manufacturing efficiency and deliver more competitive products by standardizing vehicle platforms across multiple market segments. In addition, they plan to integrate supply chains and prioritize shared procurement of components to streamline production and optimize operations.

It has been confirmed that the integration will establish a joint holding company in 2026, with Nissan and Honda becoming wholly-owned subsidiaries. However, they will remain separate, with the combined entity expected to be listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while the individual companies will be delisted as part of the transition.
