Honda previews 0-Series EV prototype ahead of debut at CES

Honda will unveil two innovative electric vehicle prototypes as part of its new Honda 0 Series at the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The car on the left in the trailer is similar to the previous year’s Saloon EV concept in many ways, including smart LED taillights, a stylish diffuser-mounted brake light, and illuminated Honda lettering. While the shadowy teaser offers limited details, it strongly hints at an evolved version of the Saloon EV concept, with full specs set to be revealed when it makes its official debut.

The eye-catching SUV on the right side of the trailer is the real highlight of Honda’s 0-Series prototype lineup. It’s boxy in shape and probably about the same size as the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 . It has a long wheelbase and an almost vertical rear window. It has a wrap-around LED light bar but doesn’t have the typical rearview mirror.

Honda 0 Series Platform: Key Highlights

Honda’s 0-Series models will be available with a range of powertrain options, including single-motor and dual-motor configurations. These will be paired with newly designed compact electronic axles, designed to be mounted low in the car to optimize space. They also help reduce the car’s frontal area and improve aerodynamic efficiency. Series 0 cars will initially feature two different electronic axle units, available in three different configurations to suit various performance needs.

The base model will be rear-wheel drive and feature a 245-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. For even more power and traction, two dual-motor all-wheel drive versions will also be available, combining a 68bhp motor on the front axle with a 245bhp motor on the rear axle.

Like most electric cars, the 0 Series’ battery pack will be installed under the floor. However, Honda hopes to differentiate itself by making the package as thin as possible (about 8mm thinner than the packages used by competitors).

The 0 Series SUV is expected to be equipped with nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries with a capacity between 80kWh and 90kWh, and an estimated cruising range of approximately 480 kilometers. However, these details have not yet been officially confirmed.

More to show at CES 2025

In addition to two electric vehicle concepts, Honda will unveil a new proprietary vehicle operating system at CES. It will emphasize advances in autonomous driving technology as part of its broader electric vehicle vision.
