Honda raises MSRP for already expensive 2025 Civic Type R

  • Although the 2025 model year remains unchanged, prices have increased.
  • Right now, the Civic Type R starts at $46,690, just $200 cheaper than the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R .
  • Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

The Honda Civic Type R is an excellent car. In fact, many consider it one of the best value performance cars on the market right now. Unfortunately, its price in the U.S. has increased slightly, and after adding the $1,095 destination charge, buyers will have to spend at least $46,690.

That price is $800 more than the 2024 model. That’s not too bad considering inflation has increased the price of just about everything over the past year, but it does push the Civic Type R closer to the 2024 Volkswagen Golf R, which starts at $46,890. It also makes the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla, which starts at $37,635, more appealing.

Honda has yet to make any updates to the 2025 Civic Type R. While it hardly needs any updates, it would be nice if Honda made some software tweaks, or safety improvements to better justify the price increase. In terms of smiles per mile, the Honda is still hard to beat.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet (420 Newton-meters) of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission, which happens to be one of the best manual transmissions on the market.

However, Honda doesn’t have much room to keep raising the price. If it approaches the $50,000 mark, it will be competing with one of the most well-rounded sports cars in this price range, the BMW M240i. The automaker also needs to leave room for the slightly more premium Acura Integra Type R, which shares its engine with the Type R but starts at $53,795.
