Hyundai Tucson Bharat NCAP 5 Star Rating Explained

The Hyundai Tucson was recently evaluated under the Bharat NCAP crash test program and received an impressive 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. This makes it the first model from Hyundai to be tested under the Bharat NCAP protocol.

The model tested was the top-end 2.0L petrol automatic Signature trim, equipped with advanced safety features such as six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Isofix anchors for the rear outboard seats and three-point safety alerts for all passengers bring. Other safety features include a tire pressure monitoring system, hill hold control, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and a Level 2 ADAS suite.

Adult occupant protection:

The Hyundai Tucson scored 14.84 out of 16 points in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 16 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. It offers strong head and neck protection for the driver and passenger, while chest and foot protection was rated adequate. Child occupant protection:

In the dynamic test and CRS (child restraint system) installation test, the Tucson received perfect scores of 24 points (out of 24 points) and 12 points (out of 12 points) respectively. The test model featured child dummies aged 18 months and 3 years seated in rear-facing seats secured with Isofix fixtures and support legs.

Additionally, the Hyundai Tucson complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection standards to ensure the safety of vulnerable road users. However, Bharat NCAP did not provide a detailed assessment of the performance of the SUV’s body shell and footwell area. The report also lacks comprehensive details about child protection testing.

In India, the Hyundai Tucson is currently priced in the price range of Rs 29 lakh to Rs 36 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV comes with two engine options: a 2.0L gasoline engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 2.0L diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
