The India-spec KTM 390 Adventure S is an Adventure Tourer, while the 390 Enduro R ditches the bodywork to become a hardcore off-roader
After a great show at EICMA 2024, KTM brings its 390 Adventure series to India. The new 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R made their debut at the IBW (Indian Bike Weaker Race) in Goa, India. Looking at these motorcycles, we can see that they are very close to the motorcycles displayed at EICMA 2024.
The new KTM 390 Adventure
The KTM 390 series is manufactured by Bajaj Auto in India and enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad. Known for its insane performance among single-cylinder offerings, the KTM 390 is extremely popular. Within the 390 portfolio, the 390 Adventure occupies a special place as it caters to the popular Adventure Tourer type.
In addition to the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure, the company also showcased the 390 Enduro and 390 SMC at EICMA 2024. These motorcycles are brand new motorcycles from KTM. For India, KTM showcased the 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R. The SMC 390 is a Supermoto motorcycle based on this platform, with 17-inch wheels at both ends.
The company is sticking with the just-debuted India-spec KTM 390 Adventure S and 390 Enduro R, showcasing them at the IBW held in Goa. There are differences between the way the two machines are built and what they do. The 390 Adventure S is more of an adventure tourer with decent off-road and off-road capabilities.
The Aventure S comes with 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked wheels. Compared to the 390 Adventure R shown at EICMA 2024, the 390 Adventure S has lower ground clearance and a lower seat height. The suspension setup includes USD front forks and rear monoshock, and the 390 Adventure S also comes with a TFT instrument panel.
A more powerful 390 Enduro R
The 390 Enduro R, on the other hand, is much more capable and is a true off-roader. The 390 Enduro is a more focused, hardcore off-roader with a minimal body and lighter weight. It comes with a larger 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoked wheel combination. Suspension compression and rebound may be fully adjustable. Suspension travel is approximately 230mm.
Ground clearance is also higher thanks to larger wheels and higher suspension travel. So the seat height has also been pushed up. Functionally, the 390 Enduro R has similar attributes to the 390 Adventure S, but without the bodywork.
In terms of power system, both Adventure S and Enduro R use the same 399cc DOHC 4V/cylinder liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine as the 390 Duke. The motor is capable of producing 45 bhp and 40 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, slipper clutch and bi-directional quick shifter. KTM may tune this engine differently to achieve the best characteristics of these machines.
